Objective
This project aims to create picture books inspired by African oral traditions, addressing the underrepresentation in South African literary history. I attempted to produce a book in a 12-hour "dash," making them freely printable and distributable to address the lack of books in African languages, especially for children in low-income communities. This book draw from childhood proverbial phrases, conveying cultural wisdom and lessons through storytelling. The target age for this book is for children between the age of 3-6 years old.
Characters
The main character and central focus: Benny.
Benny along with his Grandmother bunny and other animal friends; squirrel, meerkat and mouse, attempts to tell the story of how Benny overcame his fears.
Translation
This book was originally made in English and then translated into Northern Sotho.
